Every inch of Iceland is like out of a dream… a very cold dream, but it is absolutely unlike any other place I’ve ever been. It’s a land where all four elements (fire, water, air, earth) all come sputtering in their most extreme forms. So rugged and ruthless. So remote. So quiet, and yet so loud, as you view the epic landscape sweeping the island.
After our workaway time at the outdoor center, Josh and I ventured out with our rental SUV to see southeastern Iceland. We drove along the legendary Ring Road, which is Iceland’s one main road that wraps the island’s entirety. There are several other offshoot roads you can take to see additional natural sights, primarily all of them being unpaved ‘F Roads, (four-wheel drive only vehicles) which are more risky and near impossible to drive in winter. There are numerous different ways you can map out the Ring Road drive through Iceland, but the most popular is to drive the entire loop (usually around 10-14 days). We had one week and decided that we didn’t want to rush through all of it too quickly; we wanted some time to explore the mountains, so we only did the bottom half of the Ring. Since its spectacular scenery is what best depicts Iceland, we’ve decided to walk you through our Ring Road Trip highlights through our photos. Enjoy!

We were going to try to hike to the top (that is a common hike), but it was too snowy to make it to the trailhead (and too windy to climb).

Love your update and photos!!! The ice climbing looked amazing and the hotdog looks delicious! 🙂
Thanks Vanessa! The hotdogs are much better than we expected 🙂
Um, I don’t think there’s a word to explain the photos I’ve just seen. Let’s say it’s hard to believe you saw such that much epic, natural beauty in a single week. Well done Marissa and Josh!
Thanks, Glad you liked the photos! Believe it or not it is even better in person than they show!
